SHOP NEWS 2005 - ARCHIVE

Holiday Schedule (Dec 2005)
We will be closed on Christmas day and New Years day, but will have normal business hours before and after these holidays.  Yep, that means we'll be there until 6pm on Christmas Eve and New Years Eve.... just in case you need to get a stinky dog or two clean at the last minute before visitors arrive.  Happy holidays!

Shot & Microchip Clinic - Nov 26, 2005 at Noon
Canine Creek will be hosting an in-store pet care clinic on Saturday, November 26th from Noon to 3pm. David Gantenbein D.V.M., of Antelope Valley Animal Hospital, will be offering a full line of shots, including dog 6 in 1, cat 4 in 1, bordatella, and rabies. Shellie Lowetz of Microchips & More will be providing Avid microchip services for only $45 per pet. The Canine Creek staff will be handing out free samples of Wellness and Innova, two premium quality pet foods. Instant engraved ID tags are now available every day at Canine Creek, so no pet should ever be without one! For more information on the November 26th pet care clinic, stop by for a flyer or give us a call.

Thanksgiving Shop Schedule (Nov 2005)
We will be closed on Thursday, November 24th so that our staff can celebrate Thanksgiving with their families, but will be operating normal business hours (10am to 6pm) the rest of the week.  Don't wait too long to wash Fido for turkey day visitors... we are usually very busy the week before any major holiday.  The tubs are first come, first served, so there could be a wait at times.  If you'd like to check tub availability before you visit, feel free to give us a call at 822-0307.

New Products - They Just Keep Coming! (Nov 2005)
There are so many new items rolling into the store, it's hard to keep up with the list.  In the last few weeks we've added TreatStiks, Udder Tugs and Haute Diggity Dog plush to the toy section.  In healthy treats, we've added Barkhouse Bars and new flavors of Grandma Lucy's (Turkey Pot Pie, Ginger Snaps, Spice & Everything Nice).  In the gift section, there are dog theme nightlights, picture frames, and artist-painted ceramic breed mugs.  In food, we are now stocking Venison and Duck formulas of the Wellness Simple Solutions, and Evo by Innova in dry, for dogs with special needs, such as fighting allergies and illness, and whelping growing puppies.  Just in time for the holidays, you can buy "bling bling" customizable rhinestone collars, charms for pets and people, party collars, and Christmas stockings.  And, for the dog who has everything... some fun stuff for under the tree, including donut bolster beds, t-shirts with funny sayings, hats, and practical winter clothing.

New In-Store Service: Engraved ID Tags (Oct 2005)
Adopt a shelter dog?  Buy a puppy?  Every dog should have an ID tag, and Canine Creek has just made it quicker and more convenient for you to get one for your precious pooch.  With our new computerized IMARC engraver, we can make a pet tag for you in only a few minutes.  These nice quality metal tags come in a variety of shapes, sizes and colors, and can be engraved on both sides to include more information.  These tags are also an easy way to neatly ID your horse tack, luggage, and more.  Stop by the shop any time and let us help with your ID tag needs!

October Puppy Classes (Oct 2005)
Have a new baby dog in the house?  Canine Creek will be hosting a 4-week puppy class, run by professional trainers Teri Kahn and Barbara Allen, during the month of October.  These 1-hour puppy training sessions will be held on Thursday evenings at 6:30pm, at Canine Creek, starting on October 6th, with the last class on Thursday, October 27th.  Topics covered will include socialization, basic training, and problem solving.  Cost: $40 for the 4-week session.  Puppies must have their shots to attend.  For more info, call Teri Kahn (822-0403) or Barbara Allen (821-2817).

Longer Shop Hours, New Staff (Sept 2005)
Due to increased demand, we have decided to permanently increase our shop hours.  Effectively immediately, Canine Creek is now open from 10am to 6pm, 7 DAYS A WEEK!  However, please note that we will still be closed on major holidays.  A closure schedule will be posted well in advance of each holiday, both on the website and at the shop, so you can plan accordingly.

If you've been in the shop lately, you've probably been greeted by some friendly new faces.  Bill and I are pleased to announce the addition of two staff members to the Canine Creek team -- Jessica and Shellie.  Both are energetic, hard-working women from multi-pet households, with a wealth of animal-related experience.  We are fortunate to have found Shellie and Jessica, and hope our customers love them as much as we do!

Tehachapi Dog Park Update (Sept 2005)
I received an e-mail from Mike Kelley, District Manager of the Tehachapi Valley Recreation & Parks Department, with an update on the status of the development of a dog park for Tehachapi.  Unfortunately, there is very little happening at this time.  They are still in the process of "working to obtain a property from the Golden Hills CSD" and, at the last meeting, there were concerns about illnesses being spread in dog parks.

In my opinion, there is plenty of open land in Tehachapi, and the simple act of adding a fence should not have any impact on health issues, as dogs are currently using the parks.  Tehachapi is a growing town that NEEDS a fenced, off-leash park where our dogs can play and socialize in a safe place.  Please take a moment and write to Mr. Kelley at mkelley@tvrpd.org, express your support for the project, and encourage the city to move forward.  They need to know the community wants a dog park!

Hurricane Katrina Clothing Drive (Sept 2005)
Canine Creek will be collecting used, clean clothing donations from September 6th thru the 9th for the victims of Hurricane Katrina.  These items will be delivered to the Rite Aid distribution center in Lancaster, California and added to the truckload of supplies heading to the Rite Aid distribution center in Tuscaloosa, Alabama to help those in need.  If you would like to contribute to this effort, please contact Susie at info@caninecreek.com.

Kitties Demand Equal Treatment (Aug 2005)
In response to customer demand, Canine Creek is now selling high quality Wellness food for cats.  We are stocking dry food in Kitten, Adult and Senior formulas in two size bags, but can also special order canned food, by the case, at no extra charge.  If you would like to see the full line of Wellness dog and cat foods, visit their website at www.OMHPet.com.  Just send us an e-mail and tell us what you need... we'll be happy to get it for you.

On the topic of our feline friends, you might also be surprised to know that we sell breakaway cat collars (with and without bells), organic catnip & cute kitty toys.  As the shop grows, we will be adding more selection in the cat department, so watch for updates.

August Arrivals (Aug 2005)
Have you been in the shop lately?  Although we're not a very large store, there is always something new for dog lovers and their fur friends.

In grooming we've added SPF15 doggy sunscreen, natural flea protection spray by Happytails, and Earthbath Spritz in a variety of yummy scents.  In the toy department we've added the futuristic (and durable) Spunks, Chuck-it for tennis ball fun at the park, Canine Genius (for pups that need a puzzle challenge), Tuffies (durable but soft squeaky toys), the Talking Bone (with a unique "Rip It Up" warranty), Greenies non-edible dental chews, and Whirlwheel (rubber fetch & tug).

In the home and gift section, you'll now find the ultra hip Family Pet Pride bowls and picture frames, soft Canine Hardware travel beds (with their own stuff-sack), Midwest Life Stages training crates, and Bark Magazine.  In food/treats we've added Wellness Lite, turkey steak patties, bully pretzels, Hip Chips with Glucosamine and Chondroitin (by the makers of Greenies), and Chewgars... dog treat "cigars" that proclaim "Made in Howlvana", "It's a Girl!" or "It's a Boy" -- the perfect gift for new pet parents.

July's HOT Stuff (Jul 2005)
Fun and practical dog stuff just keeps on coming.  In the last 30 days we've added a number of new items, including food.  Canine Creek is now selling Wellness dry dog food, Merrick canned dog food, and Old Mother Hubbard biscuits.  When you visit the shop, be sure to check out the Wildside Salmon freeze-dried treats -- dogs AND cats love them.

In the travel section, we've added Outward Hound float vests for safe summer fun, and more small dog pet carriers.  In the collars/leashes section, look for Omni leather collars in a variety of colors, WackyWalkr bungee leashes, custom made Earthstone collars with semi-precious stones (these are to die for), a hands-free walk/jog leash, and the really cool Grip Leash for those who need a little extra help controlling boisterous dogs.  In toys, look for the Planet Dog Orbee "waggy" bones, durable Orka toys, rubber Ruff Dog Tools, and canvas Chill Pills (everyone knows a dog that needs one!)

Other fun new items include Planet Dog ball caps, car magnets, a dog book section, Crunchkins rawhide greeting cards, and a small assortment of catnip toys for our feline friends.  Shipments arrive weekly, so there is always something new at Canine Creek....

Help Wanted!  (Jun 2005)
Canine Creek needs a hard-working dog lover to join our team.  Part-time, but permanent, flexible schedule.  Must be willing to work weekends.  Start as shop assistant to learn the ropes, and grow with us as we continue to expand.  If you are the right person for us, the position may turn into Assistant Manager or full-time Manager down the road.  To apply for the job, please send us an e-mail and tell us why you want to work at Canine Creek.  A positive attitude, solid work ethic, and enthusiasm count for much more than your past work experience.  Must be over 21 and have reliable transportation.  Previous experience in the pet industry, retail, and/or customer service helpful, but not required.

Lots of new goodies (May 2005)
So many new and interesting items have been added to the shop in recent weeks, it's hard to keep track of them all...

In the toy section, you can now find Giggler Balls, guaranteed rubber toys the Hurley dumbbell and Huck ball by West Paw (made in the USA!), Dogs in Action and Screwballs by JW Pet, Hol-ee Mol-ee Extreme, Planet Dog Soccer Balls and Baseballs, indestructible hard plastic Jolly Balls, Talk To Me Treatballs, Bamboo Pet Combat Toys ("battle tested" and guaranteed by the manufacturer), and Katie's Bumpers floating tuggable fetchable fire hoses.

In the treat section, we now feature quality, natural treats made in the USA by Merrick, including Ribs in a Blanket, Texas Tacos, and Beef & Liver Rollos.  Other popular treats are Pork Skin Rolls, and 3 Foot Bully Sticks (in addition to the 6" and 12" sizes).

More new items will be arriving the week of May 23rd.  With over 400 square feet of unique toys and treats, we are now Tehachapi's favorite place to shop for cool dog stuff.  Stop by and see for yourself!

Special treats for special dogs (Apr 2005)
Canine Creek is pleased to announce that we are now selling the popular Pepper's Pet Pantry fresh-baked organic treats, which have been lovingly made by Mary Beth of Rosamond for many years.  The special treats available include Carob Party Pops, Peanut Butter Pixies, and chicken flavored Pepper's Picnic.  Affordably priced at only $6.25 per pound, and voted "Four Paws Up" by our shop Lab testers Winston and Brando!  Stop in and ask for a free sample.

What's new for Spring (Apr 2005)
Several wonderful items have been added to the boutique, and more is on the way.  The newest arrivals include more cool and durable toys by Planet Dog (Orbee Tuff dice, footballs, nuts and bolts, two sizes of canvas feed bags), Chewber flying tuggable disks, dog travel gear by Outward Hound (weekender bags, doggie backpacks, lunch boxes, treat & ball bags), trendy yet practical dog eyewear by Doggles, a new line of collars and leashes by Lupine (guaranteed, even if chewed!), and some lovely wood-framed keepsake pawprint kits to immortalize your favorite pet.

Here we grow again  (Mar 2005)
Due to the popularity of the retail section of our shop, the Canine Creek Boutique has been expanded by 200 square feet into an adjoining suite.  Construction is complete and the new room is being stocked with goodies including denim pet beds, ceramic treat jars, gourmet pet treats, tapestry breed pillows, and dog related home decor and gifts.  Items planned for the future include dog greeting cards, crates, and a new line of gorgeous (but reasonably priced) collars.  Stop by and see us!

New Retail Items - February's Arrivals (Feb 2005)
The next time you're in the shop, check out the adorable breed prints by New Mexico artist Krista Brooks and her company, Retro Pets.  These brightly colored prints make great gifts and, as the company's motto says, truly are a "Work of Arf".  We carry about 25 different prints, but 108 images are available by special order, at no extra charge.

If you have an active dog, prone to getting into trouble when left unattended, you might want to consider purchasing a KeepSafe Breakaway Collar, which has a special quick release buckle that helps prevent strangulation accidents and injuries.  The collar can also be used for walks, as it has a D-ring on either side of the release, which keeps the collar intact while the dog is on leash.  We carry this collar in sizes ranging from small to extra large, which should fit most dogs.  Protect your furry friend!

Other recently added items in the retail section include 4 foot nylon leashes, 26-foot retractable leashes by Flexi, Kong Stuff N Paste (Liver and Peanut Butter), and R7 Ear Powder.

New Shampoos Added (Jan 2005)
Due to the popularity of the Crazy Dog brand colognes, we decided it only made scents (yes, pun intended) to add their shampoo line to our dog wash offerings.  The new shampoos include Baby Dog (baby powder), Wild Cherry, Pina Colada, and Green Apple.  And, if you want some to take home, we also sell the ready-to-use 12oz size.  Including the Bark 2 Basics line, our bathing customers now have THIRTEEN shampoos to choose from..... at the same low bathing prices, plus two specialty shampoos (flea/tick, odor) for an additional charge.

We're Expanding:  Retail Items Added (Jan 2005)
A new year means new goodies in the Canine Creek Boutique.  Some of the toy arrivals include Planet Dog Orbee Balls, Puppy Pulls, Nylabone Dental Balls, Planet Kong Goodie Bones, Tuff Tires (with and without ropes), plush bungee animals (up to 40" long), Kong Dental Sticks, Nylabone Originals, and Cool Kongs with ropes.

In the treat category we added Lawn Protection and Glucosamine Biscuits, Deli Thins (doggie pepperoni... a big hit), pork femur bones, freeze dried ice cream made especially for dogs, and Velvet Bimples cornstarch dental treats.  Want to make a fashion statement?  We now stock 18 colors of 22" square cotton bandanas.... perfect for dogs and humans alike.  In grooming, we've added tear stain remover and Crazy Dog Shampoos.

Is there a retail item you need?  Please don't hesitate to ask.  We take pride in our reasonable prices, and are happy to take special order requests.  We may not be able to fill them all, but we will certainly try.

Tehachapi Dog Park Update (Jan 2005)
We received word from the Tehachapi Valley Parks and Recreation District that the dog park we proposed for Tehachapi is in the works, and could become a reality as early as Summer 2005.  A potential location has already been chosen (an undeveloped portion of land in the Golden Hills area), so adding dedicated dog facilities will not reduce the current general use park facilities.  Assistance may be needed from the community, such as financial sponsorships, so please contact us if you are willing to help.
