Holiday
Photos For Pets & People - Sunday, Nov 5th
On Sunday, November 5th, Canine Creek will be hosting a pet and people
holiday photo event with Kathy Simmons, a very talented photographer who
specializes in animal portraits. Appointments with Kathy will be
made on a advance, first-call basis, and held between 11am and 4pm that
day.
The $39.00 sitting fee includes a portrait package of (1) 8x10, (2) 5x7,
and (4) 4x6 prints of the image of your choice. Prints and
enlargements will be available for an additional fee. Multiple
pets are welcome, as are the humans in the family. Come dressed in
your Sunday best!
The professional background will be Christmas themed, and Kathy will
provide holiday collars and bandanas for your pets to wear during the
photo session (or you can wear/bring your own). Remember, pictures make
great gifts as well as fun Holiday cards. To schedule an appointment,
call Canine Creek at 822-0307.

Canine Creek Receives Retailer of the Year
Award
Pet
Product News International, the leading pet industry business news
magazine for over 60 years, has chosen Canine Creek as the 2006/2007
Retailer of the Year. This is a huge honor, and we are thrilled to
have won. We will be presented with our award at the Super Zoo pet
industry convention at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas in late September.

Shellie's daughter Beth won the 4H pet
costume contest at the
Antelope Valley Fair in Sept 2006 with London & Teddy. Cute!
Mayor
Awards Canine Creek Key to the City
On Tuesday, September 5, 2006, the
owners of Canine Creek were invited to attend the City Council meeting,
where we received a resolution certificate acknowledging our
contributions to the community, and were awarded a gold key to the City
of Tehachapi by Mayor Ed Grimes. Very cool, and a huge honor!
Now, if we can just figure out where the vault is kept...
Labor Day
Weekend Schedule (September 4, 2006)
Please note that Canine Creek
will be closed on Monday, September 4, 2006, in observance of Labor Day,
so that our staff may enjoy a day off with their families. We
will, however, maintain a regular schedule of 10am to 6pm the weekend
prior to Labor Day (Saturday the 2nd, and Sunday 3rd). Thank you
for your understanding.
Excuse Me, May I
Shoot Your Dog? (June 27th)
Armed with only a camera, a Winnebago, and his indomitable good nature,
photographer Jeff Moore is touring North America, shooting dogs and
their loved ones in both formal and candid settings. Between May and
September 2006, he’ll be looking for subjects for his book at nearly
forty pet stores in cities as far flung as Darien, CT, San Diego, CA and
Naperville, IL. He’ll also be trying to discover new talent in
unexpected places – in the wild, at parks and beaches, in alleys and
junkyards.

Brando & Winston, posing for Jeff More on June 27, 2006
On Tuesday, June 27th, 2006, Jeff
Moore will be at Canine Creek Dog Wash & Boutique, offering
doggie portraits for a discounted sitting fee of $75, and the chance to
be featured in his book. Ten dollars from each photo sitting fee
sold will be donated to the Doberman
SOS rescue, located in Tehachapi. Reservations
are requested, but walk-ins will be accepted, if time permits.
A former, but unsatisfied, fashion model who worked in Europe and Japan,
Moore first picked up a camera to document his travels. But the real
inspiration came during a Canadian road trip with his chocolate lab,
Bogey. “I was drawn to dogs and people and realized I had a gift for
putting the dogs at ease, allowing me to capture their essence,” says
Moore. Like the best portrait photographers, Moore takes pictures that
are not about making the subject look good, or about shooting their
“best side,” but about capturing something descriptive of who they are.
His work has been featured in Self, Country Living, AKC Gazette, Animal
Fair and Studio Photography and Design.
“The stories told by the photographs and text in Excuse Me, May I Shoot
Your Dog?, will explore the emotional life of dogs, the complexity of
the relationships between dogs and their people, and how these things
entwine with the world at large,” he adds. “And like all good stories,
they will be sometimes funny, sometimes uplifting, sometimes painful,
sometimes all at once.”
If you want your dog to mug for Moore, and the chance to be featured in
Excuse Me, May I Shoot Your Dog?, please call Canine Creek at (661)
822-0307 or email
info@caninecreek.com to schedule your photo shoot, or obtain more
information. For more information about the tour, including a
nationwide schedule, visit www.mayIshootyourdog.com.
Canine Creek in the News (June 2006)
We were mentioned in a very
nice article by Mr. Glenn Orr of the Tehachapi High School, written to
the Tehachapi News, with regard to our participation in the student
Workability program this year. You can see the article on the
Tehachapi News website.
Open Memorial Day, 10am
to 6pm (2006)
We are normally closed on
major holidays to give our staff time off, but Shellie has offered to
keep the shop running that day. Therefore, we will be open from
10am to 6pm on Memorial Day. So, if you need anything for your dog
-- a cooling bed, pool toys, a truck bed tie-down for a road trip, or
some yummy food -- Canine Creek will be available to meet your needs.
Basic Obedience
Classes - Starting May 1st
Canine Creek will be hosting
basic obedience classes on Monday evenings, starting at 6pm, beginning
May 1st. (No class on
Memorial
Day weekend.) The price will be $100 for an 8 week course.
All non-aggressive dogs and puppies over 4 months, with current
vaccines, are welcome to attend. The topics covered will be those
essential for a happy home life with your pet, including sit, stay,
down, proper leash etiquette, communication techniques, and problem
solving. The first session will be with owners only - no dogs
attending the May 1st class, please.
This obedience class will be run by
Janice Gantenbein, who's pet industry experience includes zookeeper,
L.A. Animal Control, and movie studio animal trainer. Janice
teaches animal handling to private individuals, 4-H and other groups,
believing that "living with your dog obedience" is essential in
integrating a pet into the family.

Adopted Doberman Leaves in Style (Feb 2006)
Although our customers adore their pets,
it's not every day a white stretch limo pulls up out front of the shop
to take them home after a bath. Xena, a 6-year old rescue from
Doberman SOS, is indeed one "lucky dog". Xena's adoptive mom made
a 5 hour drive from the San Francisco area to pick her up on a sunny
February morning. Not only did Xena find a really nice family, she
left for her new home in style, with a trunk full of food, toys and
treats.

Xena's adoption day, and limo ride home
And Grizzly Gets a Home...
Another successful adoption by Susan at Doberman SOS was a dog named
Grizzly, who struggles with health issues and will be on medication for
the rest of his life. We recently received a note from Grizzly's
adoptive mom, who found her sweet boy through the link on our home page.
It said, "Wanted to let you know how much work your website has done -
the link Doberman SOS helped us adopt Grizzly a special needs dog. He
seems to have settled down to this new home pretty well so far. Also
like your store and services!" Beth J.
Congratulations to Susan from Doberman
SOS for making so many perfect matches. And, thank you for letting
us share the joy of finding homes for these beautiful dogs.
Want to adopt a Doberman? Many
dogs need a family to love them. Please visit the
Doberman SOS pet list and rescue your next
family member.
More Natural Dog Foods in Stock (Feb 2006)
In the continuing effort to
offer healthy food choices to the residents of Tehachapi, Canine Creek
is now selling seven lines of dry dog kibble, all of which are on the
2006 list of recommended foods by the
Whole Dog Journal, a
monthly guide to natural dog care. These foods include
Wellness,
Innova,
California Natural,
Evo,
Canidae,
Chicken Soup for the Pet Lover's Soul, and Dick Van Patten's
Natural Balance.
And, for those who prefer feeding raw, we are also selling Honest Kitchen, a
dehydrated raw made from human grade ingredients.... a convenient and
easy alternative to home cooking. We are also selling the 4 pound buckets of Honest
Kitchen in the Canine Creek online store.
Premium foods with quality ingredients
do have a higher price tag than corn, wheat, soy and preservative-filled
grocery store brands, but they are worth it in the long run. You
can pay for healthy food now, or pay the vet bills later. If your
dog is a much-loved member of the family, it's an easy decision to make.
Ready to make a change? Stop by Canine Creek and ask us for free
samples and brochures. Your dog will thank you for it.
We are
the 2006 Small
Business of the Year
Canine Creek
was just awarded the 2006 Small Business of the Year by the
Tehachapi Chamber of Commerce. We received our award (actually,
several) at the
Denim & Diamonds Gala on January 27, 2006, at the country club Lodge
at Woodward West in Stallion Springs.
After a wonderful dinner, we were
presented with award plaques and certificates by a number of
organizations, including the City of Tehachapi, the Tehachapi News, the
Chamber of Commerce, California Senator Roy Ashburn, and California
Assemblyman Kevin McCarthy.

Stephanie, Shellie, Susie & Jessica -
Small Business Awards Night
Thank you, Tehachapi, for your support
since our opening in April 2004. We are pleased to be serving you,
and are thrilled to have received this honor. It's hard to believe
we've come so far in such as short period of time!
Meet Tricia,
the Newest Canine Creek Team Member
On Saturday, January 21st, Canine Creek
began participating in
WorkAbility,
a California Department of Education transition program that offers
pre-employment training, employment placement and follow-up for high
school students in special education who are making the transition from
school to work, independent living and post secondary education or
training.

Tricia, shown in the photo above, is our
first WorkAbility student. She is an exuberant, energetic 15 year
old who loves dogs, and by the end of her first day, had already proven
to be a perfect fit with the rest of the Canine Creek team.
Welcome, Tricia.... we're happy to have you with us.
